Biography

Norbert Goeneutte (1854–1894) was a French painter and etcher known for his vibrant depictions of Parisian scenes and his association with the Impressionist movement during the late 19th century.

Born in Paris, Goeneutte studied under notable artists and became associated with the Impressionists, particularly Edgar Degas and Édouard Manet. He frequented the lively bohemian circles of Montmartre, where he found inspiration for his art.

Goeneutte's style was characterized by his keen eye for capturing everyday scenes of Parisian life, often portraying bustling street scenes, cafes, and urban activities. His works reflected the energy and spontaneity of the city, infused with a sense of realism and a unique impressionistic flair.

His ability to capture the vivacity and vitality of urban Paris, particularly in his depictions of working-class districts and street life, set him apart as a painter.

One of his notable works, "The Pont Neuf, Paris" (c. 1880), exemplifies Goeneutte's ability to portray the dynamism of Parisian life, showcasing the bustling activity around one of Paris's iconic landmarks, the Pont Neuf.

Despite his contributions to the Impressionist movement, Goeneutte's work did not gain as much recognition during his lifetime. However, his artistic vision and dedication to portraying the essence of Parisian life in an impressionistic style have been appreciated in later years for their portrayal of the urban landscape and the vibrancy of Paris during the late 19th century.
