Biography

Raimundo de Madrazo y Garreta (June 24, 1841 – September 13, 1900) was a Spanish painter known for his realistic depictions of Spanish life and culture, often featuring scenes of everyday life in Madrid and the surrounding countryside. Born into an aristocratic family in Madrid, Madrazo displayed an early aptitude for art and received training at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando under Federico de Madrazo, his uncle and a prominent Spanish painter.

Madrazo's early artistic development was influenced by the prevailing realist movement in Spain, and his work shows a similar focus on accurate representation and attention to detail. He often painted scenes of the Spanish people, capturing their customs, traditions, and daily lives. His paintings are also notable for their use of light and color, which he used to create a sense of atmosphere and mood.

Madrazo traveled extensively throughout his career, visiting France, Italy, and Morocco.
