Biography

Victor Lagye (20 June 1825, in Ghent – 1 September 1896, in Antwerp) was a Belgian painter known for his genre paintings and history scenes, often characterized by their realism, attention to detail, and ability to capture the essence of everyday life. Born in Ghent, Belgium in 1825, Lagye displayed an early aptitude for art and received training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent under Pierre-François de Pauw and Ferdinand de Braekeleer. He later moved to Antwerp, where he continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under Gustave Wappers.

Lagye's genre paintings often depict scenes of everyday life in Belgium, such as people at work, at leisure, and in their homes.
