Gerda Maria Tirén, née Rydberg (January 11, 1858 – October 9, 1928), was a Swedish painter, drawer, and illustrator.
She did landscapes from France and Sweden, children's portraits, and genre scenes. Her illustrations were often featured in the magazine Jultomten (Santa Claus).
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Tirén studied at Tekniska skolan (Technical College) from 1875 to 1882. She then attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm, where she also participated in the academy's etching school for a short time.
In 1884, she married the painter Johan Tirén, whom she had met in Paris. They had four children, two of whom became artists: Nils Tirén and Stina Tirén.
Tirén's work is characterized by its bright colors and lively brushwork. She was particularly interested in painting landscapes, and she often captured the beauty of the Swedish countryside in her work. She also painted portraits of children, and her genre scenes often depict everyday life in Sweden.
Tirén's work is held in several collections, including the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
She died in Penningby, Uppland, Sweden, in 1928.
