Seymour Joseph Guy (1824–1910) was an American painter recognized for his compelling genre paintings and depictions of American life during the mid-19th century.

Born in Greenwich Village, New York City, Guy demonstrated an early talent for art and began his studies at the National Academy of Design. He later continued his artistic education in Europe, primarily in Düsseldorf, Germany, under the tutelage of influential artists such as Emanuel Leutze.

Guy's art primarily focused on genre scenes, particularly sentimental and picturesque portrayals of everyday life. He was noted for his detailed and sentimental renderings of interior scenes, often depicting women, children, and domestic settings.
