Biography
Hume Nisbet (1861-1927) was a British painter and illustrator, whose work is often of a highly decorative type. She was born in Harrow, Middlesex, England, on February 15, 1861. Her father was the painter and writer Hume Nisbet, and she married the artist Harry Bush.

Nisbet studied at the Royal College of Art, where she won three gold medals and the Princess of Wales' Scholarship, established in 1863 to reward the most distinguished female art student in the United Kingdom and what is now the Republic of Ireland.

Nisbet exhibited extensively at the Royal Academy (RA), Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI), Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, and in the provinces and abroad. Her work is held in the Newport Museum and Art Gallery.

Nisbet also illustrated a number of books, including several of Russian fairy tales. She lived in London and died on February 15, 1927.

Nisbet's work is known for its decorative qualities, often featuring rich colors, intricate patterns, and elaborate details. She was influenced by a variety of styles, including Art Nouveau, Pre-Raphaelitism, and Japanese art. Her paintings and illustrations often depict scenes from mythology, folklore, and literature.

Nisbet was a successful and respected artist in her own time, and her work continues to be exhibited and admired today. She is considered to be one of the most important British female artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
