Biography
Michalis Economou is a Greek conductor known for his passionate and versatile approach to music, spanning a wide repertoire from classical to contemporary works. Born in Athens, Greece, in 1955, Economou displayed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano and violin at the age of six. He furthered his musical education at the Athens Conservatory of Music, where he studied conducting under the guidance of Miltiadis Karantzos.

Economou's conducting career took off in the 1980s when he won the Dimitri Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition. This prestigious award opened doors for him, leading to appointments as conductor of the Athens State Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also conducted numerous guest appearances with renowned orchestras worldwide, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Economou's repertoire encompasses a vast range of musical styles, from Baroque and Classical to Romantic and Contemporary. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, and Dmitri Shostakovich.
