Biography

Laurits Andersen Ring (1854–1933) was a Danish painter and one of the leading figures in the Skagen Painters, a group of artists who gathered in the coastal town of Skagen in the late 19th century. Born in Ring, a village in southern Denmark, Ring's artistic career was marked by his association with the Skagen artistic community and his contributions to the Danish naturalist and realist movements.

Ring began his formal artistic education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he studied under the guidance of Peder Severin Krøyer, another prominent Skagen Painter. During his early career, Ring was influenced by naturalism, a movement that emphasized portraying subjects realistically and truthfully, often depicting scenes from everyday life.

The Skagen Painters, including artists like Anna Ancher and Michael Ancher, gathered in the northernmost tip of Denmark, attracted by the unique quality of light and the picturesque landscapes.
