Konstantin Yakovlevich Kryzhitsky (1858–1911) was a Russian realist painter known for his atmospheric landscapes and genre scenes. Born in St. Petersburg, Kryzhitsky received his artistic education at the Imperial Academy of Arts in his hometown, where he studied under the guidance of renowned Russian artists.
Kryzhitsky's early works were influenced by the academic style prevalent at the academy, but as his career progressed, he became associated with the Peredvizhniki (Wanderers) movement. The Wanderers were a group of Russian realist artists who sought to break away from academic traditions and bring art closer to the people by depicting scenes from everyday life.
The artist's preferred subjects included rural landscapes, often featuring peasants at work, and scenes from everyday life. Kryzhitsky had a keen eye for capturing the nuances of light and atmosphere, which lent a poetic quality to his paintings. His works often exuded a sense of tranquility and harmony with nature.
