Joan Mitchell (1925–1992) was an American abstract expressionist painter known for her vibrant and emotionally charged works. Born in Chicago, Mitchell displayed an early talent for art and attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She later moved to New York, becoming a prominent figure in the post-World War II American art scene.
