Jean-François Portaels (1818–1895) was a Belgian painter and a prominent figure in the 19th-century art scene. Born in Vilvoorde, Belgium, Portaels showed early artistic promise and pursued his passion for painting, studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels.
