Biography

James Sant (1820–1916) was a prominent English portrait painter known for his skillful and elegant depictions of Victorian society. Born in Croydon, Surrey, Sant showed early artistic talent and received his formal training at the Royal Academy Schools in London. He quickly gained recognition for his portraiture, becoming a member of the Royal Academy in 1870 and later serving as its Professor of Painting.
