Biography

Jacob Maris (1837–1899) was a Dutch painter and one of the leading figures of the Hague School, a group of artists who played a crucial role in the development of Dutch Realist painting during the late 19th century. Born in The Hague, Maris came from a family of artists, and he, along with his brothers Matthijs and Willem, would go on to make significant contributions to the art world.
