Biography
Armand Guillaumin (1841–1927) was a French painter and a key figure in the Impressionist movement, known for his vibrant landscapes and expressive use of color.

Born in Paris, Guillaumin originally trained as a clerk but later pursued a career in art, attending evening classes at the Académie Suisse and developing his skills in painting. He became associated with prominent Impressionist artists, including Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, and Camille Pissarro.

Guillaumin's paintings were largely characterized by his remarkable use of color and light. He had a talent for capturing the effects of changing light on landscapes, using bold and vivid color palettes that conveyed a sense of luminosity and atmosphere. His style evolved over time, influenced by the Impressionist movement, and his work often depicted the French countryside and the urban landscapes of Paris.

He participated in the Impressionist exhibitions, contributing to the movement's development and its focus on capturing transient effects of light and natural scenes through painting.

One of his notable works, "Sunset at Ivry" (1873), exemplifies Guillaumin's mastery in using color and light to depict the radiance of the setting sun over the landscape.

Although Guillaumin was not as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries during his lifetime, his contributions to the Impressionist movement, particularly in his adept handling of color and light in his landscapes, have earned him appreciation and recognition in the realm of art history. His vibrant and expressive paintings continue to be celebrated for their bold use of color and their contribution to the Impressionist style.
