Granville Redmond (1871–1935) was an American Impressionist painter renowned for his lush and vibrant landscapes, particularly his depictions of California's rolling hills, poppy fields, and coastal scenes. Born in Philadelphia, Redmond overcame significant challenges in his early life, including losing his hearing due to scarlet fever at the age of two. Despite this obstacle, he developed into a highly skilled and accomplished artist.

Redmond's artistic journey began with formal training at the California School of Design in San Francisco, where he studied under Arthur Frank Mathews. He further honed his skills at the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art. During this period, he embraced the tenets of Impressionism, drawn to its emphasis on capturing the effects of light and color.

The artist's connection with the natural beauty of California became a central theme in his work. He frequently painted scenes of wildflowers, particularly the California poppy, which earned him recognition as the "Master of the California Poppy."
