Giovanni Giani (1866-1936) was an Italian painter known for his verismo paintings, characterized by their realistic depictions of rural life and their ability to capture the essence of the Italian countryside. Born in Lecce, Italy, in 1866, Giani displayed an early aptitude for art and received training at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin.Giani's verismo paintings often depict scenes of peasants working the fields, families at home, and children at play, imbued with a sense of authenticity and social commentary. He often painted scenes of everyday life in the Apulia region of southern Italy, capturing the traditions and customs of his time.
