Biography

Prince Eugen (1865-1947), born Eugen Napoleon Nicolaus of Sweden and Norway, Duke of Närke, was a prominent figure in Swedish art, recognized for his captivating landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. His works were characterized by their harmonious compositions, delicate brushwork, and ability to capture the essence of the Swedish landscape and people.

Born into the Swedish royal family in 1865, Prince Eugen displayed an early inclination towards art, often sketching and painting during his childhood. His artistic talents were encouraged by his family, and he received his initial training from Gustaf Cederström, a renowned Swedish portrait painter.

In 1887, Prince Eugen embarked on a significant journey to France, immersing himself in the vibrant art scene of Paris. He studied at the Académie Julian, where he honed his skills in drawing, painting, and composition, influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements.
