Elsa "Ellen" Favorin (31 December 1853 – 27 November 1919) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish painter known for her landscapes and portraits. Born in Kuorevesi, Finland, in 1853, Favorin displayed an early aptitude for art and received training at the Finnish Art Society drawing school in Helsinki.Favorin's landscape paintings are characterized by their soft, muted colors, their attention to detail, and their ability to capture the essence of the Finnish countryside. She often depicted scenes of rolling hills, meandering rivers, and lush forests, infused with a sense of tranquility and beauty. Her landscapes are also notable for their use of sfumato, a technique that involves blending colors subtly to create a hazy, atmospheric effect.
