Elizabeth Nourse (1859–1938) was an American painter known for her realist and genre paintings, with a focus on portraiture and scenes of everyday life. Born in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, Nourse became a prominent figure in the art world, achieving recognition for her skillful and empathetic depictions of people and places.
Nourse began her artistic training in Cincinnati, studying at the McMicken School of Design and later at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. In 1887, she traveled to Paris to continue her studies at the Académie Julian.
