Biography

Eduard Veith (1858–1925) was an Austrian painter associated with the Symbolist movement and known for his atmospheric and mystical works. Born on July 28, 1858, in Vienna, Veith's artistic career unfolded during a period of significant artistic and cultural change in Europe.

Veith studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he developed his skills in painting and drawing. In the late 19th century, Symbolism emerged as a reaction against the naturalism and materialism of the time, emphasizing the use of symbolic imagery to convey deeper emotional and spiritual meanings. Veith aligned himself with this movement, and his paintings reflect the Symbolist emphasis on imagination and the exploration of the subconscious.

Veith's works often featured dreamlike and fantastical scenes, with an emphasis on color, mood, and symbolism. He was fascinated by the mystical and otherworldly, and this is evident in his paintings that often depict ethereal landscapes, mysterious figures, and symbolic elements.
