Biography
Claude Monet (1840–1926) was a French painter and one of the leading figures of the Impressionist movement, which sought to capture the fleeting effects of light and color in the natural world. Born in Paris, Monet's artistic journey took him from the early influences of Realism to the development of a revolutionary approach to painting that transformed the art world.

Monet's early years were marked by a passion for outdoor painting and a rejection of academic conventions. Alongside fellow artists like Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro, he developed the Impressionist style, characterized by loose brushwork, open compositions, and a dedication to capturing the changing atmosphere and mood of a scene.

One of Monet's most famous works is "Impression, Sunrise" (1872), which not only gave the Impressionist movement its name but also encapsulated its essence. The painting features a harbor scene with hazy light and loose brushstrokes that convey a sense of immediacy and transience.

Monet's devotion to painting en plein air (outdoors) and his fascination with the effects of light and color led to series paintings, where he would depict the same subject at different times of the day or in various weather conditions. His iconic series include "Water Lilies," "Haystacks," and "Rouen Cathedral."

In his later years, Monet shifted his focus to his famous water garden at Giverny, where he created a serene environment with water lilies and a Japanese bridge. The series of paintings inspired by his garden, particularly the water lily paintings, are celebrated for their ethereal beauty and innovative use of color.

Monet's impact on the art world was profound. His work challenged traditional notions of representation, and his dedication to capturing the essence of a scene rather than its precise details laid the groundwork for later movements such as Post-Impressionism and even abstraction.

Claude Monet's legacy endures as a master of color, light, and atmosphere. His contributions to the Impressionist movement not only transformed the course of art history but also continue to captivate audiences worldwide, inspiring generations of artists to embrace the beauty of the natural world and the subjective experience of perception.
