Biography
Charles-Édouard Boutibonne (1816-1897) was a French painter known for his adherence to the principles of academic classicism. Born in Pest, Hungary, to French parents, Boutibonne's artistic journey began at the age of 22 when he painted a portrait of the renowned composer Franz Liszt.Boutibonne's artistic training took him to Vienna, where he studied under the tutelage of Friedrich von Amerling, a prominent portrait painter to the Austrian Imperial Court. Amerling's influence instilled in Boutibonne a deep appreciation for the technical precision and refined elegance characteristic of academic classicism.
In 1842, Boutibonne moved to Paris, the epicenter of the art world at the time. There, he continued his studies under the guidance of Achille Devéria and Franz Xaver Winterhalter, two esteemed portrait painters who further honed his skills and solidified his understanding of academic classicism.
Boutibonne's paintings are characterized by their meticulous attention to detail, their idealized representations of human figures, and their adherence to the principles of balance, harmony, and proportion.
