Biography

Alf Wallander (1862–1914) was a Swedish painter known for his contributions to the Swedish art scene during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born on February 3, 1862, in Lund, Sweden, Wallander's artistic journey was characterized by his exploration of various styles, ranging from Naturalism to Impressionism.

Wallander began his formal art education at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where he studied under the guidance of well-known Swedish artists such as Per Daniel Holm and Richard Bergh. He continued his studies in Paris, a center of artistic innovation during that era.

In the early part of his career, Wallander was associated with Naturalism, a movement that sought to depict everyday life with a focus on accuracy and detail. His paintings often portrayed scenes from rural life, capturing the essence of the Swedish countryside.

As his artistic style evolved, Wallander embraced the influence of Impressionism. This shift was marked by a departure from strict realism, as he began to explore the effects of light and color in a more atmospheric and subjective manner. His landscapes and outdoor scenes from this period are notable for their vibrant palette and loose brushwork.
