Biography

Adrien Moreau (1843–1906) was a French Academic painter known for his historical and genre scenes, as well as his exquisite depictions of Orientalist subjects. Born in Troyes, France, Moreau received his artistic education at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied under the renowned history painter and teacher, Léon Cogniet.

Moreau's early works showcased a talent for historical and biblical subjects, often rendered with meticulous attention to detail and a classical approach. His commitment to Academic principles, characterized by a focus on precise draughtsmanship and classical themes, aligned with the prevailing artistic trends of his time.
