Biography

Viggo Pedersen (1854–1926) was a Danish painter known for his contributions to naturalism and plein air painting during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Pedersen received his artistic education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He later continued his studies in Paris, where he was exposed to the influential artistic movements of the time.

Pedersen was associated with the Skagen Painters, a group of Scandinavian artists who gathered in the northernmost part of Denmark, known as Skagen. The Skagen art colony became renowned for its dedication to capturing the unique quality of light in the region and the natural beauty of its landscapes.

Viggo Pedersen's paintings often focused on the coastal scenes, fishermen, and the everyday life of Skagen. His works reflect a keen interest in the effects of light and atmosphere, showcasing a mastery of plein air techniques.
