Édouard Vuillard (1868–1940) was a French painter and printmaker, associated with the Nabis group and recognized for his distinctive contributions to Post-Impressionism. Born on November 11, 1868, in Cuiseaux, France, Vuillard's art reflects a nuanced and intimate exploration of everyday life, interiors, and portraiture.

Vuillard studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he met fellow artists Maurice Denis, Pierre Bonnard, and Ker-Xavier Roussel. Together, they formed the Nabis (Hebrew for ""prophets""), an avant-garde artistic movement that sought to break away from the constraints of Impressionism and explore more symbolic and decorative approaches to art.

One of Vuillard's key artistic interests was the interior scene. His paintings often depict domestic settings, particularly interiors of bourgeois homes. He became renowned for his ability to capture the atmosphere of these spaces, infusing them with a sense of intimacy and psychological depth.
